Like all plants, wood consists of cells. The cells of the tree have three tasks:
- Transporting water and nutrients within the living tree;
- Storage;
- Supporting the tree and giving it strength.
Wood cells can be compared with tubes. They usually run along the axis of the trunk, and sometimes across it.
